my 93 fzj 80 and intro

no intro section so this is it and itll be my build thread. i picked it up in miami w 211k on the clock.

the rear locker didnt work so i tore into it and found the accuator full of dirt.

theres no rebuild kit for these and a new replacement is 900 from toyota and used are around 5 so i cleaned it up regreased it re glued the motor magnets and re soldered the brush lead in the motor and it works good now. i installed a diff lock button for the center and pulled one wire from the shift controll module to make it fully selectablr locking and unlocking. before it would only lock the center in low then allow the diffs to be locked but now itll lock or unlock in hi or low. got new tires theyre 33s


i ran all the breathers up to the highest point in the engine bay so it terminates in the center at the top of the firewall.
i had to replace the two main shift solenoids in the tranny and i added a beefy skid for the trans and transfer case.


thats all for now but theres big plans. sliders are next then a tube bumper and winch. lift and 35 are in the plans but itll take time im gonna keep this truck for a long time. its perfect for my family i have four kids so i needed room but from what i understand i have one of the best platforms for a family hauling trail rig.

I didn't. I have no steel melting tools unfortunatly. It came from a member of the ih8mud.com forum. The guy that made it lives in Oregon and beats his cruiser to hell so I'm sure its super strong.

Its been a while since ive posted here but im still plugging away on my little project. One of these days hopefully i can meet up with you guys in the woods.
Since the last post i have done quite a bit but im still a long way from where i want to be but its a one income house with 4 kids so im happy with the progress.
First on my list was a front axle refresh.






Im glad i did because both of brass spindle bushings were toast. Luckily the axles werent damaged.

Then it was a little hardrock



A little richloam


Some where in here i got some 3 inch old man emu springs and threw on some procomp 9000s

Then at citrus in a storm i ripped off one of the flares on a root


So naturally they all had to come off.


I got tired of the unfinished look left by the mounting holes from the flares so i used a little metal tape from the back and bondoed them over and painted the fenders.

I also scored some nice vents for the hood on ebay and i cut a little sheet metal about this same time.




Then some more hardrock.

The pin striped look was getting bad from all the other little excursions that i dont have pics of and the clearcoat was bubbling in some places and turning white in others. Ever since i bought the truck ive wanted to spray it in bed liner so thats what i did.




I also did a mock up bumper and have the pieces for both sides cut out of plate steel.
I still have to cut out the center were the winch will go and the mounting tabs and melt it at a friends, i still have no melters.



I also got this cool skid to cover that rear locker acuator that i had to dig into again around the deflare time to totally replace the motor brushes in.

The best mod yet has got to be my one temporary fix for my frustration over toyota putting the distributor and coil low and up front. This truck stalled in water way too much which rendered an otherwise very capable rig totally useless. Eventually i will properly run breathers and otherwise totally seal the distributor but for the most recent trip to richloam trip i used a rubber glove di electric grease zipties and a pool float to water proof the ignition.


Its been a wet year and richloam was wet and deep and i didnt get stuck or stall once and we were in water the majority of the 8 hours of trail time.




There was plenty of winching and yanking tho.
