| i had a j10 in highschool for about 8 months. it was an ugly beast of a truck that was slow but could do perfect donuts. I took the stock metal fender flairs off and i could fit 35 on the sagging suspension but my dad made me put them back on. The motor was perfect but the stock carter carburator was crap and needed adjustment daily. i saved up to put a chevy 350 in it but i got a great deal on my bronco and im a ford guy so it was a natural choice. my uncle has another one on his farm in NC just, he wants the motor out of it and i want it to cut the chassy off at the back of the cab and build a truggy out of it. | |

Im kinda long winded some times so please excuse the long response, i wasnt mad or anything. im just bored because i have 4.5 hours between classes. thought about it but its not my style. Its got room for my stuff, relatively short wheel base, back seats for passengers/dogs. enough room to use as a camper on the trail. Removable top and there making for them again. Drive line wise i already have a np-435 (6.69:1 granny), i have a T-18 trans (5.56:1 granny) i may go with the t-18 bc my gearing would get to be too low with the t-case doubler, 203 reduction box, 205 t-case (totaling 4:1), i have the option of small or big block or diesel. I like the idea of a 92 or newer 460 fuel injected motor pushing 460 hp at the crank stock but a 7.3 turbo has so much more torque and the pre-superduty can run on just about anything combustible but gasoline but there so heavy compared to a gas motor. there are so many options and most will bolt on. the only problem i run in to is suspension and im designing and building that my self. on the j-10 truggy i was thinking more on the lines of a 4.0 jeep motor or a small diesel. besides that project is years away. im a poor, unemployed college kid and all the stuff i have amassed was acquired when i was still working as a mechanic so i was getting decent pay and i got most things from craigslist, trading, and luck. I currently have 4 vehicles at my house. i have my bronco, my f-250 superduty, my 1966 F-250 hot rod (part way through a frame off resto), and my slowstang (v-6 mustang) for commuting to school. I also have a 1980 CJ-5 in NC on my uncles farm where the J-10 is and it on my restoration list next. the sad thing is i found a bronco 2 on craigslist for 500 with a v-6, 4x4, and a 5 speed and im having to resist the urge to buy it and build a beater truggy out of that. | |
